WASHINGTON — Veteran first baseman Yonder Alonso thinks he can help get the Rockies back on track.
“I think of this is a new opportunity for me and an opportunity to help this really good team,” Alonso said Tuesday after he was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Alonso, 32, a former all-star, will serve as a bat off the bench and back up Daniel Murphy at first base. He will wear No. 13.
In nine games with Albuquerque, he batted .419 (13-for-31) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 RBIs, five walks and six strikeouts.
