Needing a fresh arm for their overtaxed bullpen and needing a minor-league tuneup for rookie Miguel Castro, the Rockies on Saturday selected the contract of veteran left-hander Yohan Flande and optioned Castro to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Flande is available to pitch in Saturday afternoon’s game against Arizona at Coors Field.
“First and foremost, we need arms,”said manager Walt Weiss, who’s team used seven pitchers during a 10-9 loss to the Diamondbacks Friday night. “Plus, there are some things that Miguel needs to work on, but we definitely need some innings (from pitchers).”
In 18 games (one start) at Triple-A this season, Flande is is 3-3 with a 4.
