Worth the trip: Rockies’ Nolan Arenado launches first homer of spring

It’s an unwritten rule of spring training: veteran all-stars don’t usually travel for road games, especially early in camp. Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado, of course, does not conform to the usual.

Itching to be back on the diamond, Arenado made the 45-minute drive from Scottsdale to Goodyear. In his second at-bat, he launched a no-doubt homer to left-center on an 0-2 count off Reds left-hander Cody Reed.

“I’ll drive days for a homer,” Arenado said with big grin.

After playing in the Rockies’ first two Cactus League games, he’ll take Sunday off when the team makes the long trek to Surprise.
