Trevor Story’s baseball chapter with the Rockies will officially end Wednesday. Now the Rockies must figure out who will play shortstop in 2022.
General manager Bill Schmidt said Tuesday that the Rockies “will look at both internal and external options” to replace the two-time all-star. That includes the possibility of experimenting with the versatile and athletic Ryan McMahon at the position.
“It’s something we have discussed,” Schmidt said. “Ryan has good range and that’s something we saw last year when he played third base with the shift on.”
McMahon, who shined defensively at both second and third in 2021 (where he was a Gold Glove finalist), also has played first base.
