Drew Romo has two years to get ready to take over as the Rockies’ starting catcher.

Romo, 21, will be in his first major league spring training as a non-roster invite. Set to make his Cactus League debut, the Rockies are looking to the 2020 first-round pick (No. 20 overall out of The Woodlands High School in Texas) to take another leap forward. When he was drafted, Romo was widely viewed as a defense-first catcher, but the switch-hitter worked hard to shed that label over his first couple of professional seasons.
