In the wake of Charlie Blackmon’s retirement, the Colorado Rockies enter the 2025 season on a quest to establish a new leadoff hitter. During his tenure, Blackmon was one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball and now leaves the next player with some big shoes to fill. Manager Bud Black expressed at the Winter Meetings that Brenton Doyle would be the man to fill the spot in the lineup and, true to his word, has been the spot Doyle has batted in spring training.
The combination of speed and power makes Doyle a great candidate in the vein of the modern-day prototypical leadoff man.
