LOS ANGELES — It was about as close to a perfect game as the Rockies could play.
In their 6-1 victory over the Dodgers on Monday night, they hit homers, manufactured runs, flashed Gold Gloves and got another magnificent pitching performance from Tyler Chatwood.
The right-hander, who’s undergone two Tommy John surgeries to keep his baseball dream alive, threw an eight-inning one-hitter. Chatwood struck out five, walked four (one intentionally) and hit a batter. At one point, legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully called Howie Kendrick’s single in the second inning “a lonely murmur of protest.”
Chatwood was relieved in the ninth by Gonzalez Germen, who set Los Angeles down in order to preserve the one-hitter.
