It might not have been the news Trevor Story was hoping for, but the Triple-A infielder put up some big numbers of his own just before the Rockies traded all-star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Story didn't get the call to replace Tulowitzki in the Rockies' infield, but he turned some heads in the Pacific Coast League and in Albuquerque. With 13 hits in 26 at-bats, including six doubles, four home runs, 11 RBIs and multiple hits in five-of-six games, Story was named the PCL player of the week for July 20-26.
Albuquerque hitting coach Dave Hajek believes Story is the Rockies' shortstop of the future even though his big week didn't result in a promotion to Denver.
