The headliner from the Rockies’ 11-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday night at Coors Field was rookie shortstop Trevor Story, who rocketed two home runs into the stratosphere and wrote another chapter in major-league history.
Story has hit 21 homers, tying San Francisco’s Dave Kingman (1972) and St. Louis’ Albert Pujols (2001) for the most home runs by a rookie before the all-star break. With three more games against the Phillies before the break, Story has a legitimate chance to break the record.
But just as important — and perhaps even more so in the long run — was the performance of Colorado starter Chad Bettis.
