The trade deadline produced fireworks throughout Major League Baseball on Friday afternoon, but the Rockies stayed quiet, holding onto star shortstop Trevor Story and right-handed starter Jon Gray.
Both players are scheduled to become free agents at the end of the season and there was a lot of speculation that both players would be traded, rather than letting them walk with the Rockies getting only draft pick compensation in return.
A number of teams, led by the Chicago White Sox, Tampa Bay and Toronto, had conversations with the Rockies about Story on Friday, but according to sources, Colorado’s asking price never dropped, so no deal came together.
