SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — It’s too early to pencil in starting lineups, but Trevor Story slugging from the cleanup spot holds some intrigue for Rockies manager Bud Black.
That scenario depends, of course, on Story becoming a more consistent hitter and cutting down on strikeouts. The shortstop led all of baseball, and set a Rockies record, with 191 whiffs last season. He struck out in 38 percent of his at-bats.
“Avoiding the strikeout, putting the ball in play, self-admitted he wasn’t good at that early in the year,” Black said Wednesday, noting areas Story must improve upon.
