A week ago, Trevor Story was trying, not very successfully, to tune out all of the noise surrounding the trade deadline.
Thursday afternoon at Coors Field, Story’s focus was all on baseball.
The Rockies’ all-star shortstop hit two home runs and drove in three runs in a 6-5 victory over the Cubs as Colorado clinched the three-game series.
In the first, Story lifted a solo homer to left field off right-hander Jake Arrieta, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, his two-run, opposite-field homer to right put the Rockies back in front, 6-4. The 401-foot homer turned out to be the game’s deciding at-bat.
