Too little, too late performance by Rockies’ offense dooms NL West title hopes in tiebreaker

LOS ANGELES — By the time the sixth inning rolled around at Dodger Stadium in Monday’s National League West tiebreaker game, Los Angeles held a five-run lead that felt like 50 with the way the Colorado offense was performing.

And even after Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story blasted solo home runs off Kenley Jansen in the ninth, the final result was a 5-2 defeat and a too-little, too-late showing by the Rockies’ bats in the biggest game of the season.

Colorado mustered just four hits as their dreams of a first divisional title dissipated into the ether beyond Chavez Ravine, with Dodgers starter Walker Buehler beginning the game with five no-hit innings.
