Todd Helton trending toward Hall of Fame; Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens likely shut out

For Todd Helton, Tuesday is a day full of promise. For Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling, it’s a final decision day.

Helton, the Rockies’ iconic first baseman who’s on the ballot for the fourth year, continues trending toward his eventual induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

“I’m encouraged, absolutely,” Helton said Monday from his home in Knoxville, Tenn., before heading out for a round of golf.

Helton doesn’t spend time projecting when he might be inducted in Cooperstown, but he is paying attention.

“I don’t look up the numbers or anything like that,” he said.
