SAN FRANCISCO — The domino effect of Adam Ottavino's season-ending Tommy John surgery continues to needle at the Rockies' bullpen.
Friday against the Giants, in the opener of a 10-game road trip, manager Walt Weiss called on 25-year-old Tommy Kahnle.
Kahnle started warming up down the right-field line in the eighth inning, preparing for the first save opportunity of his career.
The Rockies busted loose for two more runs to ruin the save chance. Kahnle gave up three runs and struck out two as Colorado held on for an 8-6 victory.
But his appearance was more telling for what was absent.
