WASHINGTON — The Rockies are hitting .228 as a team, ranking 12th in the National League. Yet, they have won three consecutive games and own an 8-7 record.
Why? The bullpen has been, for the most part, stellar, posting a 3.83 ERA in the early going and are paced by closer Wade Davis’ six saves. Plus, Colorado’s 20 homers rank second in the NL.
But the tepid offense remains a concern. Consider:
— Ian Desmond is hitting .196 with a .208 on-base percentage.
— Trevor Story is hitting .200 with a .
