DENVER -- Trevor Story knocked a three-run homer to cap a six-run fifth inning and give the Rockies a 6-1 lead over the D-backs in Monday's series opener, as Arizona attempted to cut into a 2 1/2-game deficit in the National League West.
The homer was Story's 32nd on the season and gave him 99 RBIs.
D-backs starter Zack Godley had given up four hits in four innings, and seemed to be flirting with disaster, finally finding it in the fifth.
Ian Desmond led it off with a double to center, followed by a run-scoring single to center from Tony Wolters and an infield single from Rockies starting pitcher German Marquez, whose sacrifice bunt eluded both Godley and third baseman Eduardo Escobar.
