Baseball in Denver has changed dramatically since John Burke was drafted by his hometown Colorado Rockies in 1992.
First off, the Rockies don’t have to share a stadium with the Denver Broncos. And there’s the added benefit of fans now understanding the game.
“It’s very different because Colorado never had a team and when we got one, people looked at it like football,” said Burke, who starred at Cherry Creek High School in the late 1980s. “In baseball, you play 162 games and you’re going to lose some, which some people didn’t get at first. If the Broncos lose games early, well, then there’s more of a reason to worry.
