SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Josh Fuentes’ left hand injury is healing faster than anticipated, but the Rockies’ third base prospect knows his broken hamate bone essentially forces him into another proving round in Triple-A.
“As far as my impression with the big league club, I don’t want to say it’s gone, but realistically I won’t be playing (in spring training),” said Fuentes, the 2018 Pacific Coast League MVP. “I have to get ready for my season, Triple-A, and I look forward to being in Albuquerque the whole year. If something changes, I’m ready for it.”
Fuentes, the cousin of Nolan Arenado who bootstrapped his way through the minor leagues after signing with Colorado as an undrafted free agent in 2014, was originally projected to be out four to six weeks when he was hurt during batting practice Feb.
