Reliever Scott Oberg, who made his mark in Rockies history with a clutch postseason performance in the 2018 playoffs, announced his retirement as a player on Instagram Tuesday, adding that he will continue his career as a part-time special assistant to the club’s baseball operations.
The right-hander’s career was cut short by multiple bouts with thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition that led to blood clots in his arm.
Oberg, 32, appeared in 259 regular-season games from 2015-19, going 18-8 with a 3.85 ERA and seven saves. The Rockies selected him in the 15th round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Connecticut.
