Saunders: Why would someone want to manage Rockies? Why not?

Since Walt Weiss “stepped down” as the Rockies’ manager on Monday, speculation has centered on who will become the club’s next on-field leader. Who will the Rockies go after to fill the void?

But let’s flip the argument on its head. Who would want to come to Colorado to manager the Rockies? I’m not being a smart alec. It’s a legitimate question should the Rockies seek a manager from outside the organization.

There are plenty of arguments for taking the job:

  • Talent: The Rockies are loaded with young position players — both on the 40-man roster and in the minors — that could produce for seasons to come.
