NEW YORK — It’s a hot and steamy weekend here at Yankee Stadium. Indeed, it’s “Africa Hot,” as Mathew Broderick said in “Biloxi Blues.”
The sliding Rockies, however, are ice cold. Entering Saturday’s game against the Yankees, they had lost five straight and 12 of their last 14, having been outscored 116-59 over that span.
With a 46-51 record, they are tied for last in the National League West and are 4 ½ games out of the final wild-card spot, with five to hurdle.
The postseason dream is a mirage.
