PITTSBURGH — It remains one of my fondest baseball memories.
It was Sept. 17, 1996, a cold, misty Tuesday night at Coors Field. The Rockies' game against the Los Angeles Dodgers finally began after a 64-minute delay.
That night the Dodgers' Hideo Nomo pitched the first and only no-hitter in the history of Coors Field, beating the Rockies 9-0.
I was a young reporter at the time, working for the Longmont Times-Call. Covering Nomo's no-hitter was exciting, but not nearly as cool as sitting down to eat with Vin Scully in the press dining area.
I'm sure I was a total geek — I probably sound like a total geek now — but I was mesmerized by Scully.
