As I write this, the Rockies are coming off a frustrating 5-3 loss to the Phillies on Friday night at Coors Field. They have lost eight of their last 10 and are stumbling into the all-star break.
Despite all of the optimistic words being tossed around the clubhouse, the reality is this: Colorado sits eight games out of the National League’s top wild-card spot, with six teams standing in front of it. Barring an extended hot streak, one I don’t see on the horizon, the Rockies won’t even sniff the playoffs.
I shouldn’t be surprised. I picked them to finish the season 72-90 and they’re currently on pace to finish with 74 wins.
