Saunders: Comparing Rockies’ Nolan Arenado and Phillies’ Bryce Harper

Third baseman Nolan Arenado vs. outfielder Bryce Harper.

Arenado just signed an eight-year, $260 million contract extension with Colorado, which breaks down to $32.5 million a year. Based on average annual value, it ranks second in the major leagues behind Arizona starting pitcher Zack Greinke ($34.4 million).

Harper just signed a 13-year, $330 million free-agent contract with Philadelphia, the biggest contract in North American sports history. The average annual value of his contract is $25.4 million, which does not make the top top 10 in that category.

Arenado turns 28 on April 16. Harper turns 27 on Oct.
