Ryan Rolison, the Rockies’ first-round pick last year, is quickly pitching his way through the lower minors

After the Rockies selected Ryan Rolison with the No. 22 overall pick last year out of the University of Mississippi, the southpaw shined with a 1.86 ERA in nine starts for rookie-league Grand Junction.

And just four starts into 2019, it appears Rolison is intent on continuing his quick rise through the lower minors. He began the season in Class-A Asheville but pitched just three games before being promoted to Class-A Advanced Lancaster. In his Jethawks debut Tuesday, Rolison tossed six shutout innings and struck out seven.

But even in the wake of resounding early professional success, Rolison isn’t getting ahead of himself.
