Twelve years before becoming the Broncos’ quarterback, Russell Wilson formed an emotional connection to Colorado.
The Rockies selected Wilson, a second base prospect out of North Carolina State, in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft. But the next day, Wilson’s father died from diabetes complications, making that summer a bittersweet memory Wilson recalled on Wednesday in Dove Valley.
“(My dad dying) was one of the hardest days of my life,” Wilson said. “It was the highest of highs next to the lowest of lows, all in 24 hours. And how the Colorado Rockies organization took hold of me, took care of me was (incredible).
