Rockies waste 8th-inning rally, blow game to Marlins in 9th

For the Rockies, their maddening 5-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on Friday night was a bad drama played out in three acts on the Coors Field stage.

Act one: Colorado’s offense played dead. Act two: Their resurrected offense sprang to life to take a 3-1 lead in the eighth. Act three: closer Carlos Estevez imploded and the Marlins rallied for four runs in the ninth.

After the Marlins came undone in the eighth, the Rockies returned the favor in the ninth. Estevez, unable to command his fastball, walked leadoff batter J.T. Realmuto, and gave up back-to-back singles to Chris Johnson and Adeiny Hechavarria.
