Rockies' Tyler Matzek to begin pitching for Single-A Boise Hawks

HOUSTON — The project to fix left-hander Tyler Matzek is taking a small step forward.

Matzek, who began the season in the Rockies' rotation before having bouts of wildness, is scheduled to begin pitching for the Rockies' short-season Single-A team, the Boise Hawks, this week. Boise opens its season Thursday against Tri-City.

"We'll get Tyler on the mound in that first series in Boise," Zach Wilson, the Rockies' senior director of player development, said Monday. "We had Tyler work on some things in extended spring. He's gotten to the point now that he needs to get back into competition.
