Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland, David Dahl and Carlos Estevez are signed, sealed and delivered for the Rockies’ 2020 season.
But all-star shortstop Trevor Story and starting catcher Tony Wolters remain in contract limbo and are likely headed toward a salary arbitration hearing.
Story, who made $5 million last season and is projected to make $11 million in 2020, did not come to terms with the Rockies on a one-year contract before Friday’s deadline. The Rockies also did complete a deal with Wolters, who’s expected to more than double his $950,000 salary from last year.
As is now the case with all 30 teams in the majors, Colorado prefers a “file-and-trial” philosophy — meaning it is unlikely to negotiate between now and the hearings in February.
