The Rockies acquired backup catcher Drew Butera and cash from the Royals on Friday in exchange for Minor League left-hander Jerry Vasto.
Butera is a nine-year veteran who has spent the last four seasons backing up All-Star Salvador Perez in Kansas City. He contributed to the Royals' World Series title in 2015, making an appearance in each series during the club's postseason run. Butera has appeared in 51 games this season and hit .188 with two home runs and 18 RBIs.
Butera is not expected to join the Rockies until Saturday, when rosters can be expanded to 40 players.
