SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Brendan Rodgers came to spring training hoping to play so well that he would force his way onto the roster, a la Trevor Story in 2016.
That didn’t happen. The Rockies’ top prospect was sent down to minor-league camp Saturday, along with five other young players. Yet Story, just 22, impressed in his second big-league camp.
“Offensively — and I told him this — he’s improved from 12 months ago to now,” manager Bud Black said. “Just in the spring training at-bats, laying off the breaking ball, not expanding the zone, he’s improved.”
Black used Cactus League statistics as a gauge.
