Established in 1993, the Colorado Rockies are among the youngest franchises in Major League Baseball. The history of baseball in Denver goes back much further. The Denver Bears were a minor-league team in the Western League from 1885 until 1954. The New Orleans Baby Cakes, current Pacific Coast League Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, were housed in Denver as the Bears from 1955-1984, and were then known as the Denver Zephyrs until 1992 before the Major-League Baseball team we all have come to know and love moved into Mile High Stadium.
