Chris Iannetta‘s days as a Rockies catcher are expected to come to an end today.
A major-league source confirmed a report by MLB.com that Iannetta and the Rockies will “part ways” as the club makes room on its roster for young catcher Dom Nunez. Iannetta will likely be designated for assignment.
The club will select Nunez’s contract to add him to its 40-man roster and call him up from Triple-A Albuquerque before Tuesday night’s game against Arizona.
Iannetta, 36, is in the final year of a two-year, $8.
