With right-handed reliever Justin Lawrence set to go on the paternity list prior to the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Colorado Rockies will need a reinforcement for their bullpen. In news originally broken by Blake Street Banter, right-handed pitching prospect Angel Chivilli will be the one to take Lawrence’s spot on the roster while he welcomes his Leónito de Panama.
Chivilli was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2018 for $200k. Purple Row had him ranked at no. 44 in our preseason PuRPs listing and he isn’t among the Rockies’ top 30 prospects per MLB pipeline, but the organization is high enough on his upside as a late-inning reliever that they added him to the 40-man roster as a Rule 5 protection.
