Trevor Story became a Coors Field legend Wednesday night.
In the middle of a hot pennant race, when a mere mortal’s palms can get sweaty and he might hold the bat too tightly, the Rockies’ all-star shortstop hit three titanic home runs in Colorado’s 5-3 victory over San Francisco.
One of those home runs traveled farther than any other home run in Coors Field history. That dates to 1995 when the ballpark in LoDo saw its first pitch. Combined, Story’s three home runs traveled an estimated 1,380 feet (or 460 yards).
Colorado’s dramatic win gave it a three-game sweep of the Giants, was its fifth consecutive victory and increased its lead in the National League West to 1½ games over the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lost 7-3 to the New York Mets on Wednesday.
