CINCINNATI — In simplest terms, the last-place Rockies cannot have an improbable turnaround over the final two months of the season unless their rotation does a complete flip from the MLB-worst 5.74 ERA it’s posted so far.
That starts over these next two weeks, when Colorado and its four-man rotation can either fade from playoff contention for good or start to claw its way back in it. If it’s the latter, that means little room for error for Peter Lambert in the series finale on Sunday against the Reds, followed by Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland and German Marquez against the Dodgers back in LoDo.
