Elehuris Montero arrived at spring training with a lot to prove. The Rockies’ rookie baseman has done that — and then some.
Montero, 24, not only won the starting third-base job, but he also showed that he might be primed to be a high-impact player.
Montero launched his team-leading fifth home run of the Cactus League on Sunday in Colorado’s 7-5 loss to Cincinnati. His latest wallop was a 428-foot, two-run blast in the fourth inning. Montero has slashed .328/.381/.621 in 21 Cactus League games with two doubles and a team-high 12 RBIs.
On Saturday, he was presented with the Abby Greer Award as spring training’s MVP.
