Rockies southpaw relievers getting closer to returning as critical early May homestand looms

MILWAUKEE — With a critical nine-game May homestand starting Friday in LoDo — where Colorado will aim to climb back to .500 for the first time since March 31 — help is on the way.

Two of the club’s veteran left-handed relievers are inching closer to returning. Both Chris Rusin (on the injured list with a back strain since March 25) and Jake McGee (left knee sprain, April 2) threw bullpen sessions ahead of Thursday’s series finale in Milwaukee.

Rusin, who also threw live batting practice earlier in the week at Miller Park, hasn’t had any setbacks in his recovery, and the same can be said for McGee.
