PITTSBURGH — The numbers screamed for a time out.
Rockies three-time all-star right fielder Carlos Gonzalez is batting 0-for-20 with six strikeouts on the current road trip and is 5-for-55 since his last two-hit game on May 25 at Philadelphia. His average sits at .215, his on-base percentage is .292 and he’s batting .154 with runners in scoring position.
Not surprisingly, manager Bud Black sat Gonzalez Wednesday night against the Pirates and plans to keep Gonzalez out of the starting lineup again on Thursday when the Rockies return home to host St. Louis.
Raimel Tapia started in right field Wednesday, and with Gerardo Parra still on the disabled list with a strained right quadriceps, Tapia is likely to start on Thursday as well.
