The Rockies’ unsettled spring changed again on Wednesday as workouts were halted at the team’s Salt River Fields complex in Scottsdale, Ariz. because of the spreading coronavirus.
The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, which owns and operates the land where the Rockies complex sits, ceased operations Wednesday, forcing the shutdown. A number of veteran Rockies players had been conducting voluntary workouts at Salt River Fields, but those workouts are no longer permitted.
Some Rockies players might choose to come to Denver and work out. As of now, Coors Field remains open to players for voluntary workouts, based on guidelines handed out by Major League Baseball.
