Rockies seeking to bolster bullpen as spring training nears; talks with Carlos Gonzalez continue

With about one month to go before pitchers and catchers report to spring training, the Rockies will continue to make upgrading their bullpen a top priority, general manager Jeff Bridich said Tuesday during a conference call with reporters.

“We are still fairly active and engaged in both the free-agent market and the potential trade market,” he said. “The focus now is pitching, specifically our bullpen, if possible. And also we are looking (to see) if there are ways to add complimentary players on our bench.”

Bridich also acknowledged that the Rockies are slowly working toward a possible contract extension with all-star right fielder Carlos Gonzalez, who is entering the final year of his contract and will make $20 million this season.
