SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Ryan McMahon doesn’t need to break out this season. He needs to even out.
The Rockies’ third baseman has shown tantalizing flashes of what he can do. On April 6 a year ago, for example, he tied the Rockies franchise record with 14 total bases vs. Arizona, going 4-for-6 with a double and three home runs. On July 30 at San Diego, he went 3-for-3, launched his first career grand slam and drew two walks.
But mixed in with the highlights were too many empty at-bats.
“You saw what I did the first couple of months, and then I fell off a little bit,” McMahon said Sunday.
