Rockies rout Padres in series opener behind loud bats and an effective German Marquez

The Rockies made a hard game look easy on Friday night.

Behind ace German Marquez, who paired five-plus innings of two-run ball with a bases-clearing double, Colorado trounced San Diego 12-2 in the series opener at Coors Field as the Rockies played with an edge in all aspects.

Trevor Story got the LoDo party started with a no-doubt, two-run homer in the third, his ninth of the season, before the Rockies really broke it open with a seven-run fourth inning against overmatched Padres southpaw Eric Lauer.

Ian Desmond led off that frame with a single, and the on-base brigade that followed featured a David Dahl single, a Garrett Hampson walk and a Tony Wolters’ RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
