Jeff Hoffman had to be carted off the field at Oracle Field on Tuesday night in San Francisco, after the Rockies’ right-hander was drilled with a line drive in his right knee.

With one out in the fourth inning, Alex Dickerson hit a ball 99.6 mph off the bat and it nailed Hoffman square in the kneecap. The ball careened toward the third base dugout for a single as Hoffman writhed in pain on the mound.

The Rockies and Giants were tied 3-3 when the injury occurred. Hoffman (2-6, 6.71 ERA coming into the game) was replaced by right-hander Jesus Tinoco.
