The Rockies’ best feel-good story from last season has seen his time with the club come to an end.
Colorado released right-hander Tim Melville on Monday, ending a brief but memorable tenure in purple pinstripes for the 30-year-old journeyman. The former fourth-round draft pick by the Royals in 2008 was 2-3 with 4.86 ERA in seven starts for Colorado in 2019, and he dazzled in his first two outings.
Melville, whom the Rockies signed last May out of an independent league, said his winding baseball journey isn’t over yet. As a non-roster invitee at this year’s spring training in Scottsdale, a fractured rib that Melville initially suffered in his final start of 2019 kept him from pitching.
