Rockies 6, Reds 3
Monday at Salt River Fields, Scottsdale, Ariz.
On the mound: While it certainly wasn’t Kyle Freeland‘s cleanest start of spring — 4u2154 innings, 78 pitches, two runs on two hits, including a solo home run allowed in the first to Scott Schebler — it was one of his most productive starts. The left-hander, probably Colorado’s opening-day starter March 28 at Miami, experimented with a number of pitches, including a two-seam fastball, designed to break down and away from right-handed batters. It worked relatively well Monday, netting Freeland three strikeouts and a big thumbs-up from himself.
