On the mound: Jeff Hoffman, the hard-throwing right-hander trying to force his way into the starting rotation, had a rough afternoon. After pitching well in his last two starts, he gave up five runs on six hits in 4 u2154 innings. He was unlucky in the Indians’ three-run fourth, but ultimately gave up a bases-clearing double to Jordan Luplow, on what Hoffman thought was a good fastball down in the zone. In the fifth, Roberto Perez hammered Hoffman’s hanging curveball to deep left field for a two-run homer.
