Rockies Recap: Colorado’s hit brigade tops Cubs in front of record crowd at Salt River Fields

Rockies 11, Cubs 6
Saturday at Salt River Fields, Scottsdale, Ariz.

On the mound: Presumed opening day starter Kyle Freeland threw six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk. One of those hits was a no-doubt dinger by preseason MVP candidate Javier Baez, who went deep to left-center for a two-run homer in the third on what Freeland said “was supposed to be a backdoor slider that came back across the dish” … Southpaw reliever Mike Dunn continued his perfect spring, tossing a scoreless inning to extend himself to nine Cactus League frames pitched without allowing an earned run … Jake McGee’s nightmare spring continued as the southpaw gave up a three-run homer to prospect Christian Donahue in the eighth.
