Rockies rally in ninth to defeat Padres after hail delay

Say this for the Rockies: They never quit.

They beat the San Diego Padres 8-7 in an unlikely, almost unbelievable fashion Friday night at Coors Field on a walk-off single to deep center by pinch-hitter Daniel Descalso.

The Padres were 50-0 this season when leading after eight innings, but DJ LeMahieu sparked initial hope among the Rockies fans left in the ballpark when he crushed a one-out double in the ninth off closer Brandon Mauer. Mauer got Nolan Arenado to pop out for the second out, but Carlos Gonzalez drove in LeMahieu with a single up the middle, cutting the lead to 7-6.
